The ion exchange resins (IER), adsorbents and chromatographic resins are solid polymers that come in the form of spheres capable of modifying the physical-chemical characteristics of the acquired solutions. These products are used in water treatment but in recent years multiple applications have been developed in the food, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical sectors.

Palomba General Trading LLC was born from thirty years of experience in the sale and assistance of ion exchange, adsorbent and chromatographic resins. The combined knowledge of resins and processes allows us to optimize the performance of existing plants and to develop new applications to suggest the most suitable solution.

Food Applications and Engineering

Food grade ion exchange, adsorbent and chromatographic resins comply with American FDA and European APF97 regulations.

SUGARS: Softening, decolorization and demineralization of sucrose. Glucose fructose separation, sucrose inversion, purification of fructoligosaccharides.
GRAPE JUICES AND WINES: demineralization of grape juice, decolorization, removal of iron and heavy metals, production of extracts of anthocyanins and tannins from grape skins, production of proanthocyanidins from grape seeds, acidification of musts and wines, purification of tartaric acid.
CITRUS JUICES AND DERIVATIVES: Debittering, decolorization, production of flavonoid extracts, deacidification, purification of pectins.
NATURAL EXTRACTS: production of polyphenols (anthocyanins) from blueberries and elderberries, apple juice, peach juice, artichoke, grapes, citrus fruits, dates, production of punicalangina from pomegranate peel.

FROM LABORATORY TEST TO THE INDUSTRIAL PLANT

For the development of new applications of ion exchange, adsorbent and chromatographic resins:

  • Qualitative laboratory tests with glass chromatographic columns from 150 – 1000 ml aimed at defining the process and the most performing resins, at the customer or in our laboratory. Production of samples of the treated product on a small scale for customer evaluation.
  • Qualitative and quantitative tests with pilot plant with 3/5 liter resin columns aimed at defining the cycle length, regenerative efficiency, consumption of reactants for regeneration, eluate volumes and consequent sustainability.
  • Comparative tests between resins of different brands aimed at defining the best performing resin.
  • Plant calculation and details of the operating conditions

For existing resin systems:

  • Optimization and restructuring of plants.
  • Verification of the consumption of reactives for the regeneration of resins.
  • Analysis of the resins used and support for disposal.
